Monday marks 3 years since tornado ripped through Tellico Plains
News

Monday marks three years since 18 tornadoes touched down across the area.

The outbreak included an EF-2 tornado that swept through downtown Tellico Plains, damaging or destroying dozens of homes and businesses.

The National Weather Service recorded 70 confirmed tornadoes between March 2 and 3 across the South, which killed 41 people. No one died in Tennessee.

But two days before that Tellico Plains tornado, an EF-2 tornado ripped through the Rinne community in Cumberland County, killing two women.

Since the tornadoes, the Tennessee Valley Authority donated 27 tornado sirens to Tellico Plains, Madisonville, Sweetwater, Vonore, Rockwood, and Elgin, Ala.
