Authorities investigate mail thefts in Tellico Village

Investigators said someone found a grocery bag full of mail belonging to different Tellico Village residents last December. That same day, someone reported a car stopping at multiple mailboxes to the Loudon County Sheriff's Office.

Officers spotted the vehicle later that day and watched the women inside take something from the mail

box. They pulled the car over, and got a search warrant.

The officers found stolen mail inside the vehicle, cash inside a medical boot worn by Thomas, and checks inside her purse. The women admitted to taking the money and checks from the stolen mail, and throwing the mail away when they were finished going through it.
