TN meningitis deaths rise to nine

The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed the fungal meningitis outbreak has killed one more person and sickened another in Tennessee.

The CDC said there are now 69 confirmed cases and a total of nine deaths in that state.

Nationwide the death toll has increased to 23, and the number of confirmed cases is 284.

The meningitis outbreak has now reached to 16 states.

Tennessee has the most confirmed number of cases than any other state.

A steroid epidural injection manufactured by the New England Compounding Center is believed to be the cause of this outbreak.

Yesterday the East Tennessee Children's Hospital announced it has removed any medication it has received from the NECC.

Also on Friday, the Knoxville law firm "Gilreath and Associates" filed what could be the first lawsuit in Tennessee against that pharmaceutical company based in Massachusetts.
