Sweetwater man accused of cattle rustling

A Sweetwater man is accused of cattle rustling.

Deputies said 22-year-old Gary Hill stole four cows in McMinn County. He was captured at a livestock sale in Georgia.

Farmer Kevia Elliott fell victim to the theft.  Elliott's farm is located near Englewood.

The farmer went to feed her cattle when she noticed several animals were missing.

The McMinn County Sheriff's Office was notified.

Elliott's quick thinking helped catch Gary Hill and save her cattle.  The farmer called livestock auction facilities who were having sales.

McMinn Co. property assessor cited for theft

The McMinn County property assessor is accused of stealing perfume from a Bradley County Kohl's store.

Cleveland police say 39-year-old William Jerry Edgar Anderson grabbed Kenneth Cole perfume off the shelf, hid it, then left the store without paying.

It happened at the Kohl's on Frontage Road in Cleveland.

Police issued Anderson a citation for theft.

Several suspects arrested in McMinn Co. drug "wipeout"

McMinn County authorities arrested several wanted suspects and seized meth and marijuana plants in a county-wide operation.

During the day-long drug "wipeout" event, sheriff's deputies targeted suspects believed to be involved in criminal activity, and those indicted by a grand jury on drug-related charges.

Sheriff Joe Guy says operations like this help get drug traffickers off the streets.

Altogether, deputies arrested eight suspects during Thursday's operation. Another three turned themselves in to authorities.

Monroe Co. inmate who stole truck at work site back in custody

A Monroe County inmate who stole a truck and drove away from work site a week ago has turned himself in.

Ricky Gennoe turned himself in to the sheriff's department around 6 pm Tuesday night.  He now faces additional charges.

Man charged in DUI crash that sent newspaper editor to hospital

A man is facing charges after a car crash that sent an East Tennessee newspaper publisher to the hospital.

Dan Hall, publisher of Monroe County's Daily News Express, spent time in a hospital's intensive care unit after another driver crossed the center line in Greenback and hit his vehicle.

The driver, Nicholas Steffa, is now charged with fourth offense DUI and vehicular assault.

Athens woman accused of making meth in elderly couple's home

A McMinn County woman is accused of stealing from the elderly couple she was supposed to be caring for, and making meth in their home.

According to McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy, a grand jury indicted Angela Diane Bentley, 49, of Athens, on 1 count of Manufacturing Methamphetamine, 1 count of Reckless Endangerment, 1 count of Violation of Meth Precursor Amounts, 6 counts of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, 1 count of Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, 1 count of Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics, 1 count of Theft Under $500, and 1 count of Theft Over $1000.

Trial begins for elderly man charged with killing man in Tellico Village

The trial for an elderly man charged with killing another man in Tellico Village is underway Tuesday.

Norman Whitton is charged with killing Larry Butcher in April of 2010. Butcher was 74 years old.

According to Loudon County investigators, Whittons was driving his car when Butcher pulled in behind him with a golf cart. The two got in an argument, and investigators say Whitton shot Butcher.

Tuesday, the Loudon County Circuit Court said attorneys picked a jury and the trial began in the morning.
