If you are not registered by Oct. 8 you will not be able to vote for the Presidential and State General Election scheduled for November 6.

Early Voting starts Octoctober 17 and ends November 1.

Monroe Co. publisher recovers, paper on hold

The leader of the Monroe County Daily News Express is recovering at U.T. Medical Center after being hit head-on in a car wreck in Greenback.

According to T.H.P., William Daniel Hall, 31 was hit head-on by Nicholas Steffa, 41 of Sweetwater. Troopers indicated in their report that Steffa may have been impaired when he was driving. They said charges are pending against Steffa.

Meanwhile, the newspaper Hall owns and works on daily is on hold as staffers reorganize their priorities.

Sweetwater HS holds fundraiser in honor of childhood cancer survivors

Students and faculty at Sweetwater High School have become very familiar with a devastating disease. In recent years, two students have been diagnosed with childhood cancer.

Jacob Standridge first learned he had a rare type of bone cancer, osteosarcoma, at age 15.

"This isn't a curse; this is a gift so I can tell people what happened to me, and spread what God's done for me."

Now cancer-free, Standridge is a college student and studying to be a pediatric oncology nurse.

Zaxby's raising money for Kaliszewski family Thursday evening

Thursday evening, a Seymour store is giving back to the family of Courteney Kaliszewski, the teen killed earlier this month in a church van accident.

16-year-old Kaliszewski and 45-year-old Jeff Trussell died when an SUV hit their van carrying 12 people head-on. Several others were hurt.

Friends to hold memorial ride for McMinn Co. firefighter

Friends to hold memorial ride for McMinn Co. firefighter

Friends will remember an EMT and firefighter who was in an ATV crash with a memorial ride on Saturday.

22-year-old Zach Shultz was driving one of two ATVs involved in an accident in McMinn County back in December.

Saturday friends will hold the first annual Zach Shultz Memorial Ride. It's an effort to raise money to help with ongoing debt from his funeral expenses. Motorcycles, ATVs and bicycles are all allowed.

Registration for the ride begins at 10 a.m. at the Athens Regional Park. It costs $20.
