Grainger Co. Tomato Festival underway in Rutledge

Farmers arrived at the campus of Rutledge Elementary and Middle School long before sunrise Friday to begin setting up for the annual Grainger County Tomato Festival.

The festival officially got underway for the public at noon Friday when farmers and vendors began selling produce for the "early shopping" period.  The festival gets into full swing Friday night with live music at the Grainger County Opree.

The festival runs through late Sunday afternoon.

Judge delays decision on throwing out murder suspect's confession

In court on Thursday, the judge said he would rule on Jessica Powers Kennedy's request that her confession be thrown out next week.

(July 26, 2012) A woman accused of murdering a Monroe County election administrator is asking a judge to throw out her confession.

60-year-old Jim Miller was killed in July 2010. His body was found in the trunk of his burned car along a remote road.

New VA clinic coming to McMinn County

Veterans in McMinn County and the surrounding area will have a new place to get medical care.

Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has given final approval for a VA-staffed outreach clinic in the County.

"I started trying to get a VA clinic for McMinn County several years ago, and I am very pleased those efforts have come to fruition," Duncan said in a press release.
