NTSB report: Poor visibility factor in stunt pilot's fatal crash

Poor visibility more than likely contributed to a small plane crash in the Cherokee National Forest last spring that killed a stunt pilot, according to a report recently released by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Former deputies say they were fired for supporting losing candidate

Two Monroe County deputies have filed a federal lawsuit against Sheriff Tommy Jones and former sheriff Randy White, claiming they were fired unfairly.

Eddie Manning and Doug Brannon claim they lost their jobs in October because they supported former sheriff Bill Bivens during the election and reported vote buying allegations to the district attorney general's office and the FBI.

Police: Two teens arrested after robbing pizza delivery man

(WBIR) Athens Police arrested two teenagers after they allegedly robbed and assaulted a pizza delivery driver earlier this week.

According to an incident report, the victim called authorities Monday night after he said he delivered a pizza to a home on the 400 block of Cleveland Avenue and was assaulted then robbed. The victim ran to a nearby house to call 911.

Fire at McMinn family business may have been arson

State fire officials say a weekend fire at a family-owned business in McMinn County may have been set intentionally.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning in an RV parked outside a building that the family used to restore classic cars. Family members said the RV had been parked there for three years, with no electricity, no batteries, and no fuel inside.

Athens City Director of Schools to retire in June

(WBIR) After more than 40 years in education, a long-time East Tennessee superintendent says he plans to retire.

Our Chattanooga NBC-affiliate WRCB-TV said Robert Greene, director of schools for Athens City Schools. made the announcement this week.

Greene began his career in Meigs County and was named the state's Deputy Commissioner of Education in 2008.

He took the Athens City Schools position in 2010, where he's spent the past 5 years.

A McMinn County family is in shock following an early morning fire Sunday that destroyed their third-generation family shop.

Vonore teacher arrested for public intoxication

Monroe County Schools suspended a teacher without pay after she was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Monroe County Director of Schools Tim Blankenship said Kristin Cochran was arrested early Saturday morning. Cochran is a special education teacher at Vonore Elementary.
