Parents pack school board meeting after destructive school prank

(WBIR) Despite it not being on the agenda Thursday night, parents packed the Monroe County School Board meeting in hopes of talking about the punishment students received for a destructive school prank.

Teens credited with saving woman from domestic assault

Two teenage boys are being credited with saving a McMinn County woman's life.

According to Sheriff Joe Guy, the boys, Devon Green, 15, and Chase McCallister, 13, heard an argument Tuesday at a neighbor's home.

They saw the 38-year-old woman who uses a wheelchair come outside on the porch and scream for help. Then a man came outside, assaulted her, and pulled her back inside.

The boys called 911.

Monroe Co. man charged with rape of a child

A Monroe County man has admitted to raping a an 8-year-old girl.

The child told officers that it had happend twice before in the last few months.

Johnson confessed to the crimes. He was charged with three counts of rape of a child.

Deputies: Sex offender attacks 17-year-old outside her house

Monroe County deputies said a sex offender tried to attack a 17-year-old girl outside her home.

The victim told deputies that when she went outside her house to get her dog on Friday, David W. Carter ran from the woods nearby and tried to rip off her clothes. The teenager managed get away from Carter, ran inside, and called 911.

Former Monroe County deputies indicted on assault charges

(WBIR) A grand jury has indicted two former deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department on assault charges.

TBI investigators determined former captain Bill Johnson and former detective Derrick Graves assaulted a person who was in custody last April at the Monroe County jail.

The sheriff's department fired both men in September 2014 after an internal investigation.

Johnson and Graves are each charged with one count of assault and one count of official misconduct.

Athens house fire kills mother of three

(WBIR-Athens) A house fire in Athens killed a mother of three Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said several other people in the home, including several children under the age of ten, managed to safely escape.

Fire damages several cars at Monroe Co. car auction business

Investigators determined that a fire started in two wrecked vehicles at a Monroe County car auction business late Monday night.

Firefighters responded to the Coparts Auto Auction on Highway 411, just south of Madisonville, shortly after 10:30 p.m. In all, officials confirmed that the fire damaged three tractor trailers, a camper, and trailer.

No one was hurt in the incident.
